How do you want to be remembered?

Learn more about the lasting gift of legacy giving and how it ensures your assets continue to serve the causes you champion.

Making a positive contribution to the community is something many of us would love to do. When it comes to legacy giving in Singapore, there remains a disparity between awareness and action.

Emphasising that “it’s not just about the depth of your pockets, but the width of your heart,” CFS launched the campaign for “A Greater Gift” to inspire more individuals to include gifts to charity in their planning.

Making a lasting difference

Legacy giving empowers you to make a difference to future generations beyond your own lifetime. After providing for your loved ones, the simplest way is a bequest of assets in your will or an insurance nomination in favour of a charity.

A donation in memory of a loved one can also celebrate a legacy. Support for a favourite cause can ensure they will be remembered for years to come.

A philanthropic legacy does not have to begin after one’s lifetime. If you start giving now, you can get to know more about charities and causes. Then, with an estate gift later, you can help the good work you’ve built continue long into the future.

Supporting a thriving society

The beautiful thing about giving back is that everyone can contribute in their own way. Legacy giving provides individuals with the opportunity to realise their passions.

A heart-warming example is that of CFS Legacy Ambassadors, eye specialist Dr Audrey Looi and neurosurgeon associate professor Ang Beng Ti. The married couple set up iC2 PrepHouse — Singapore’s only institution providing structured educational and rehabilitative programmes for children and young people with visual impairment. By teaching coping skills in everyday living, iC2 PrepHouse works to enable children with low vision to stay in mainstream schools and prepare them for independent and fulfilling lives.

The couple also have plans to leave a legacy gift. “We have so little time that we tend to overlook the needs of the less fortunate,” says founding board director Dr Looi. “We would love if our story inspires people to consider our communities, and begin thinking about how they too can make a difference, even after they’re gone.”

Embarking on your giving journey

Those who are ready to start giving now can choose to establish a donor advised fund (DAF) with CFS, starting at S$200,000.

  • Flow Through Fund
    • Your donation is available for grantmaking to your preferred causes and charities over a period of time
  • Endowment Fund
    • Your donation is held at CFS in perpetuity and invested. Payout from the investment is directed to charitable causes of your choice.

To continue giving into the future, the fund is already set up for supplementary gifts, which can be added over time as directed. Through these tailored forms, legacy giving enables you to make a significant and meaningful impact on the evolving needs of the community — in a way that makes most sense to you.
